Meet Jewel Montgomery, RN
Jewel Bostic Montgomery was born in rural Georgia and at the age of two she and her seven siblings lost their mother to childbirth. They were reared by her maternal grandmother Mary Bostic. This tragedy had a lasting impact on her life, at a young age she vowed to become a nurse to help those who couldn't afford medical treatment. Her interest in helping others peaked her interest in the military. In 1992 she was commissioned into the Army Reserves as a second lieutenant. Lieutenant Colonel Montgomery holds a BSN degree from the Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing, Augusta, Georgia, and graduated from the Army’s Command and General Staff College. She is also a graduate of Front Range Community College, Westminster, Colorado, as a Registered Nurse First Assistant. She recently completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice.
Lieutenant Colonel (R) Jewel Bostic Montgomery was sworn in the 382nd Field Hospital Unit October 2, 1992 in Augusta, Georgia. She served as Head Nurse of Sterile Processing Eisenhower Army Medical Center and Head Nurse of Orthopedic Fort Gordon Georgia. She’s held the position as OIC of day-to- day operation of the 3297th field hospital Fort Gilliem, Georgia, Surgery Orthopedic Coordinator Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Hood, Texas. She is Chief Operating Officer of Surgical 1st, Inc. and previous owner of Twin Oaks Personal Care Home.
Lieutenant Colonel Montgomery awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (1OLC), Army Reserve Component Achievement Metal, National Defense Service Medal (2OLC), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal (1OLC), Army Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (M-Device, 1OLC), the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and various service and unit awards. Lieutenant Colonel Montgomery served twenty-one years in the Army Nurse Core and retired in 2014.
She holds numerous certifications as a Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia. She is a member of MOAA, CHI ETA PHI nursing sorority, Disable American Veteran Chapter 6, Mentor for Cobb County Veterans Court and serves on the board of the Bravo Victory Fund 501(c)(3) nonprofits.
